The custom of a woman’s scarf of fine fabric being worn around a mans’s neck as a token of his love and fidelity is based on an old Croatian custom kept especially by soldiers who had to be apart from their maidens for a long time. That tradition followed by Croatian combatants provoked the interest and imagination of the 17th century Paris and the rest of the world. Today it symbolizes love, devotion and dignity.
